This is one of the best tutorial I've seen about CG lighting. He uses C4D but the concepts are equals for other 3d apps. It's about an hour long but it worth every second.

I am also watching the video and my question is : is this process maxwell compatible? I mean is about tweaking against the lack of biased render to simulate reality?
What do you think?

This approach to lighting is not relevant for maxwell users. We dont need to choose the colour of our shadows.. Its the ambient light which is giving the shadows colour. Ofcourse photographers use fill lights etc, and that would be a good place to look for lighting tips.

With an unbiased scene it makes more sense to build first roughly what you need, then find the shots you like, and refine the model / lighting from there.
