Ah tricks! Suddenly we all went hunting for nex specs on a 2600 machine!

I'm using the stock fan yet and going to have a cooler soon but a short test showed me the OC (4.5GHz) benchmark will be around 6 min.

i didn't test it for now at stock speed - but i'll clock it to 3,8-4GHz when i 've finished my current project.
Then it will be slightly above 5 min ( BM ~1900) i think - looking at the 980x@4,2GHz scores: ~4:44min BM ~2250

Tested benchwell scene and here are the results:

No Overclock @ 3.400 GHz (100BCLKx34 VCore 1.22 DDR3 1.50V) (min.30°C - max.54°C @ 21°C ambient)
Benchwell | SL15 | 08m06s | B1310

Overclocked @ 4.532 GHz (103BCLKx44 VCore 1.22 DDR3 1.65V) (min.33°C - max.77°C @ 21°C ambient)
Benchwell | SL15 | 06m14s | B1702

Overall gain in Maxwell performance is "29.9% speedup"


Btw, currently running Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit with Ubuntu Maverick Sytle. Strongly suggested!

Repeated the OC test and updated the numbers in above post. The temperatures are reflecting Maxwell-load.

Hi-

I am currently trying to decide on a build based on the Sandy Bridge 2600K used for Maxwell mostly. I am not a 'computer techie', so I am trrying to educate myself on forums etc..

1.) I was wondering how much RAM is best. I am currently on XP Pro on a 32 machine, and a current project shows Memory Use at 1800 and Virtual Memory the same. So this means that for that scene I am up around 3,6 gigs, meaning double that should be plenty(an 8 gig system), or would there be a major speed increas withg say 12 or 16 gigs of RAM?

2.) Also motherboards

the ASRock Z68 Pro3 is less expensive the the P8P67 WS Revolution i was thinking about(based on a tom's Hardware build,but I think optimazed for gamers..)- any ideas here.
