I have a 2009 MacPro w/ 8GB of RAM. If I double the RAM, can expect to see any meaningful change in rendering speeds?

Additionally, does 10.7 do multi-threading better? 10.6.8 can't seem to smoothly run Photoshop and Maxwell at the same time.
On a 6-core Dell running Windows 7 I can do both without any slowdowns.

RAM doesn't make renders faster, it just allows you to render larger images or images with more MultiLight sliders. If you've been running out of RAM when you render then maybe it'll speed the overall process up, but if you run a render and your computer is using 6gigs of RAM it won't make any difference whether your computer has 8 or 16.
