Hi Bubbaloo,

this experiment is fantastic !
can you tell me how long time take to render at Sampling Level 33 ?
How many computers or CPU/core are you used ?

Many thanks.

Have you a nice day.

I'd be interested to know as well -- I recently did a small render(600 x 800) to SL 30 and it took 138 hours.

Last time I tried to go higher than SL 33 I was in excess of 300 hours and gave up.

Best,
Jason.

If I remember correctly, it was a single computer, 8 cores. I left it to render when I took a vacation (probably 9 days). When I came back, no one had touched it, and it was at about S.L. 33. Absurdly impractical, but I just wanted to prove that Maxwell does do pool caustics given enough time/cpu power.

One solution is to render it without the floor, the problem is only when you see the shadow area underneath THROUGH the glass.

The other solution is to use broad emitters / less sharp hdri.

I am constantly endeavoring to increase my carbon footprint. It'll be my legacy.

Another thing you can do is pre-render a caustic map desaturated for use as an opacity map for an emitter material applied to the pool bottom. (Even animate it).

I'm not sure. That's a question for Tom or Juan.

Maxwell does not have a certain ray bounce limit. As a proof of concept, you could place thousands of glass panels in a row and see behind them with enough attenuation.
