Might want to check out FAQ no. 30: http://www.maxwellrender.com/mw2_faq.php

I'd rather warn you gently now rather than someone from Next Limit gets p***ed.

Are you sure these licenses are transferable?

There should be no problem if you want to sell your modo license, but you should ask luxology before you do. They have a market place in their forum where you can announce your lic...

and concerning maxwell i have to say that this is really a joke... it's an investment like any other (hardware, machines) and i see NO reason why it shouldn't be possible to transfer a license.
I think this has to be done via NL because it's the registration you are paying for, but it should be possible!

And the piracy thingy is no real reason, because you can get a cracked version easily without buying it - all that counts if you use it professional is a legal license!

ZBrush allows it but you have to pay them a fee to transfer the license of $49.99.

Soon, we will not even have the executable files on our local computers. Only internet shortcuts. Welcome to the cloud.

i'm not sure, if clients, who are extremely cautious with their prototype data that they want us to visualize, are too comfortable with the idea that the 3d-guy handles their company secrets not locally, but "somewhere" up there in the cloudy internets.
even with über-crypted connections clients en gross will not feel confident enough to let that happen.
and in the end, they are the ones that do the pay - which is what counts in terms of the tool's usability.

if i were someone, that produces classified data, i would not hand that out to someone who spreads it to cloud-systems. i guess.
but that's just me.

I dont think this will happen to soon. Take a look at Octane Renderer. They made an "anti-piracy" feature which need you to stay online all the time. So if your internet coneection was interrupted overnight the rendering just stopped. I had sometimes problem reaching the server so I couldn't start a rendering. Lots of complains were the result. Some artist even don't have internet on their workstation because their long-term clients requested it. This results in removing/changing this "feature" recently.
Uploading all the date to a cloud with current broadband internet infrastructure is not possible for a lot of professionals in some coutries. So I'm relaxed for the next years about all my data and programs floating around in the cloud.

Its more common that companies don't allow to sell your license than the other way. Autodesk even has a paragraph which allowes them to enter your room and tak allok at your computer. There wa a nice article one month ago what silly stuff in EULA are written.
