This sounds like a version problem -- an earlier version of a library being unable to load data written by a later one. It could theoretically occur when different versions of plugin binaries are in place, where the exporter is writing one version, and the Maxwell Fire engine trying to load that data is a different one.
This shouldn't happen if you are using the installers, but to be sure, uninstall the plugin (use Add and Remove Programs if you are on Windows), then go to your SketchUp Plugins directory and manually ensure that maxwell.rb and the maxwell folder are gone. Lastly, delete the exporter library; on Windows, it is Skp2Mxs.dll in the SketchUp Exporters directory, while on OSX, it is Skp2Mxs.plugin, located inside of SketchUp.app itself (i.e. right-click SketchUp.app > Show Package Contents > browse to Contents > Plugins and delete Skp2Mxs.plugin).
So check that first and let me know if it helps.
