Looks like all other plugins updated, but not si. Is a new plugin not required for 2.7?

The 2.7 features aren't ready for SI yet, so we haven't updated the plug-in. The current plug-in should work fine with Maxwell 2.7, the only drawback is that you can't use the newly introduced Maxwell grass object directly from SI.

will the new features (namley grass) become available eventually or is it not possible to port them to Softimage? (I really hope they can be added!)

It should be possible to port them, we just didn't have enough time to do it before yesterday's release. We'll start working on it soon.
